FAQ

What is Cookshow?
Cookshow is the first cooking site where all the recipes are shown as videos. Above all, it is a joint effort where the site’s users provide the recipes. However, Cookshow is not only about recipes, it’s also a forum for sharing tips, for creating groups centred on a theme, for becoming one of our chefs by sending in your own recipes and a way of participating in a humanitarian project. The site also features articles about food and health.

What is the humanitarian project?
Because cooking is first and foremost about sharing, Cookshow has decided to help children who are victims of famine. For every video recipe posted on the site, Cookshow will donate $12 (or €10) to a humanitarian association to help severely malnourished children. Your will find further details on the page  “humanitarian project”.

What is a tip?
Unlike a recipe a tip is simply a technique, or a trick of the trade, that helps in the accomplishment of a recipe.

Does a recipe have to be a video?
Yes. Only video recipes will be published on the site. Nonetheless, it is recommended that you provide a written list of the ingredients needed for the recipe as well as a written description of each stage of the recipe.

Does a tip have to be a video?
No. Tips can be shown as a video or described in writing. It is possible to attach a photo to written tips.

What is the maximum size for a video recipe?
100Mb.

What is the maximum duration for a video recipe?
We recommend that you limit yourself to 4 minutes. This is already very long for a cooking recipe. Keep in mind that a recipe that is too long will bore your audience and risks to be poorly rated and therefore not seen.

What are Bloopers ?
It doesn’t exist yet, but we would like to create a collection of bloopers, so please don’t hesitate to send us all your funny outtakes. Send your blooper in the same manner that you would for a recipe, but put the title ‘Blooper’ on it. As soon as we have enough Bloopers we will put them online.

How do I register with Cookshow?
Registration is performed by clicking on the button “create an account”, which you will find on the top left-hand side of each page. You can also click on the following link: sign up.

How to cancel your registration?
To cancel your registration you only have to E-mail us with your username and the e-mail used for registration. It could take a few days to remove your profile as well as all the recipes and tips that you have posted.

What’s in it for me when I post a recipe or a tip?
You send in your recipe and tips free of charge. You remain the owner of the rights to each of your videos. There are still some advantages to post a cooking recipe on Cookshow.com:
- Use the free ‘embed’ link to put videos, your own or other’s, on you blog. Cookshow bears the cost of the bandwidth.
- If Cookshow happens to commercialise one of your videos the proceeds will be shared between Cookshow and its owner.
- Nevertheless, for every recipe that is posted on the site, Cookshow will make a donation to a humanitarian project to help combat malnutrition amongst children.

How can I send a video recipe?
Click on the 'upload' button located on the top right hand side on every page of the site, fill in the required fields and follow the instructions.

Can I write articles for ‘Cookshow Topics’?
Yes, users can write Cookshow’s topical articles. The only limitation being that the subject of the article must be connected to food or eating. Only the Cookshow team is authorised to judge the relevance of an article and whether it will be published.

What is a tag?
Tags are key words that help identify a recipe, a tip, a chef or a group. They are useful for your searches and we stronlgy encourage you to complete the line marked TAG so that your recipes, your tips, your groups, your profile can be found more easily.

I don’t have any editing material so what can I do to make sure that my video isn’t too long or too large?
* Windows includes the software for Windows Movie Maker, which enables you to edit your video.
* If your video is more than 100Mb we would recommend that you save it using a lower video quality to make it smaller.
* If you wish to further reduce the size of your video then the easiest solution is to reduce its length. This is why we recommend that your videos are no more than 4 minutes long.

What do I need to pay for?
Cookshow accepts all cooking videos free of charge if they don’t contain any advertising.
If you are a company and you would like to advertise on Cookshow, please contact us at: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

How does Cookshow make money?
Cookshow is paid:
1)    For the advertising that appears on certain pages on the site;
2)    By offering professionals from the food industry (producers, industrial groups, syndicates…) the chance to publish “Advertorials” promoting a product during the making of a recipe.

What is a chef?
A chef is simply someone who has registered with Cookshow.
On the other hand, a person who is not yet registered is simply considered as a user.

What does “create a menu” mean?
You can draw together a number of recipes, a number of dishes, to create a full meal. This is aimed at helping you retrieve the recipes that you are going to do next. It also allows you to have all that you need in front of you by printing off the recipes on a single page.

What is the “shopping list”?
This complements the “create a menu” function. Once you have created your menu we suggest that you draw together all of the ingredients needed for your recipes and print this list before doing your shopping. Several recipes = 1 single list of all the ingredients.

Can I use Cookshow without creating an account?

* Red identifies tips.
* Turquoise blue identifies groups.
* Grey-parma identifies chefs or your profile.

The video has no sound?
Check that the small speaker icon to the right of the viewing screen is not crossed-meaning that it is on “mute”- and that the sound bar is set at maximum. It is also possible that the video has no accompanying sound.

Can I put my video recipes on my blog?
Yes. The link entitled “embedded” that you find beneath each of the video recipes or tips offers the chance to import the video in question so that you can put it on your site or your blog. In this way Cookshow provides you with the opportunity to use its content free of charge and without having to contribute to the costs associated with its diffusion (cost of bandwidth).
N.B.: this service is only free for the user when the video is put onto a non-commercial site or blog. If you want to use this service for commercial purposes, please contact us here.
